Let's make some crepes!
Alice and Mary are in the kitchen. Alice wants to leant how to make pancakes because she wants to invite her friends over when she is in Italy. Do you know how to make pancakes?
Alice:So, Mom. Please, teach me how to make crepes. You know I love them, but I don’t know how to prepare them.
Mary: Do you want to learn how to make pancakes or crepes?
Alice: What is the difference?
Mary: Pancakes are rather different from crepes. Crepes are thin, pancakes are thick. We generally roll up the crepes and fill them with jam, cocoa powder or cottage cheese, whipped cream or ice-cream. We never fill the pancakes because they are very thick. We put some butter on the top and pour some maple syrup on it.
Alice: Oh, then I want to learn how to make crepes.
Mary: Well, then write down the recipe! These are the ingredients for 4 crepes:
• 2 cups of flour
• ½ tablespoon of baking powder
• ½ tablespoon of salt
• 1 egg, slightly beaten
• 1 ½ cups of milk
• 2 tablespoons of melted butter
Alice:All right, and then?
Mary: First, mix together the flour, the baking powder, and the salt.
Mary: In a separate bowl, combine egg and milk.
Mary: … and now add it to the flour mixture, stirring until smooth.
Alice: All right.
Mary: Now, blend in melted butter … and the batter is ready.
