If you prefer small shops to supermarkets you can go to the baker’s. At the baker’s you can buy different kinds of breads, rolls, cakes, crackers and biscuits, cookies, muffins, tarts, pies and sandwiches. If you want to buy meat, you can go to the butcher’s where you can buy any kind of meat, for example beef, pork, chicken or turkey. At the butcher’s you can buy cold cuts as well. If you want to buy fruit or vegetables you can go to the greengrocer’s.
George: Good morning.
Greengrocer: Good morning.
George:: Do you have any nice bananas?
Greengrocer: Unfortunately they are not very good, they are not ripe enough. Why don’t you take some cherries? They’ve just arrived.
George: I was going to make some banana bread, but all right, I’ll take some cherries and bake a nice cherry pie instead.
Greengrocer: How much do you need?
George: One and half a kilo is enough. I’d also like 6 tomatoes, 3 bell peppers, a box of asparagus, and a bag of spinach.
Greengrocer: Here they are. Anything else, Sir?
George: Yes, give me two kilos of baking potatoes, too, please.
Greengrocer: All right. Is that all?
Greengrocer: 18 pounds, please. How would you like to pay?
George: By cash. I would like to pay in cash.
