A hétköznapi kommunikáció során, de filmekben, sorozatokban is gyakran lehet hallani a “going places” kifejezést, ami nem jelenti azt, hogy “különböző helyekre menni : ) Nézzük mi is az igazság:
Ez egy idióma, amely azt jelenti, hogy valaki sikeres lesz, előrejut az életben, vagy ígéretes jövő előtt áll.
Magyar megfelelői lehetnek például:

definition: Nearby or in the future
magyarul: hamarosan, nemsokára

At a crossroads
definition: At a point where a decision must be made
magyarul: válaszút előtt lenni
example: I’m at a crossroads in my career and not sure what to do next. – Válaszúthoz érkeztem a karrieremben, és nem tudom, hogy mit tegyek.
Off the beaten track
definition: In a place not commonly visited
magyarul: letérni a bevált, megszokott útról
example: We love going on holidays off the beaten track. – Szeretünk nem megszokott helyekre menni nyaralni.
Home from home
definition: A place where you feel comfortable, like home
magyarul: egy hely, ahol otthon érzi magát az ember
example: My aunt’s house is like a home from home. – A nagynénim lakása olyan, mintha a saját otthononban lennék.
No place like home
definition: Home is the best or most comfortable place
magyarul: mindenütt jó, de legjobb otthon
example: After two weeks of travel, I realised there’s no place like home. – Két hét utazgatás után rájöttem, hogy az otthonnál nincs jobb hely.
Out of place
definition: Feeling uncomfortable or not fitting in
magyarul: oda nem illő
example: I felt completely out of place at that formal dinner. – Teljesen oda nem illőnek éreztem magam azon a hivatalos vacsorán.
All over the place
definition: Disorganised or scattered
magyarul: szanaszét, mindenhol
example: Her notes are all over the place – it’s hard to study with her. – Szanaszét vannak a cuccai mindenhol – nehéz vele tanulni.
Place in the sun
definition: A happy or successful situation
magyarul: egy boldog/sikeres pillanat
example: She finally found her place in the sun with that new job. – Végre megtalálta a helyét az új állással.
Go places
definition: Likely to be successful
magyarul: jó esélye van a sikerre
example: He’s smart, confident, and going places. – Ügyes, magabiztos, jó esélye van a sikerre.
