Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Palace Hotel. My name is Thomas Parker and I am your tour guide. You can usually find me in the office which is behind the reception desk. If you have any problems, please come and see me. Now, I’d like to tell you about arrangements for meals and other hotel facilities. Breakfast is available in the Sea Room from 7.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. This is on the first floor of the hotel, next to the lifts. Breakfast is the only meal which is self-service. For lunch, we can provide sandwiches for you to take on your trips. You need to tell your waitress at dinner each evenin what you would like. They will be ready for you to collect at 9 a.m. from the kitchen before you leave on your trip. Evening meals are served from 7.00 until 9.00 p.m. in the hotel restaurant. Being a seaside hotel, our restaurant is well-known for its fish dishes. All your evening meals will be here in the hotel except for Friday when we have organised a special boat trip for you. On that day you will have dinner on board. Bed, breakfast and evening meal are included in the cost of your holiday but lunch is an extra charge. So don’t forget to tell your waitress at dinner if you would like to have a packed lunch the following day. There’s no charge for anything else – the trips are all included. At last but not least, about the swimming pool. All guests are free to use it from when it opens at 6.30, until it closes at 10 at night. But before 8.30 in the morning and after 7.30 in the evening you need to collect a key from reception. The rest of the time a member of the staff is there. Well, that’s all I have to say for now. I’ll see you at dinner later. Enjoy yourself!

Kate and Gerry McCann sign ‘mega’ book deal over Maddie disappearance
Kate and Gerry McCann have signed a lucrative deal to write a book about the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine, their publishers have announced. After a major bidding war, Transworld won the rights to the couple’s story of how the then three-year-old vanished on a family holiday in Portugal in 2007 and their efforts to find her. It will retail for about £20 and all proceeds will go to their fund to find her. The couple recently announced the fund was in danger of running out of money by next spring. Precise details of the deal have not been released but a source said it included a ‘substantial’ advance and ‘enhanced royalties’ giving them a bigger share of profits. The book, entitled Madeleine, will be published on April 28 next year to coincide with the fourth anniversary of her disappearance. It is expected to be a bestseller and is being written by the McCanns themselves. Mrs McCann, 42, from Rothley, Leicestershire, said: ‘My reason for writing is simple – to give an account of the truth.‘Publishing this book has been a very difficult decision and is one we have taken after much deliberation and with a very heavy heart. ‘In the last few months, with the depletion of Madeleine’s Fund, it is a decision that has virtually been taken out of our hands.’

Fat women ‘would get fatter to qualify for weight-loss surgery’
A third of overweight women would rather become obese in the hope of getting free weight loss surgery than go on a diet, a survey has revealed. Some 32 per cent would gain weight deliberately and become ‘morbidly obese’ in order to go under the knife, according to the survey commissioned by Britain’s largest cosmetic treatment review website. And 28 per cent of women would claim they were ‘depressed’ to try to get a free nose job, the study by Good SurgeonGuide.co.uk revealed. Almost 60 per cent of women said they would have a form of cosmetic surgery if it was funded by the government. ‘I would have thought overweight women would aim to lose weight rather than gain it just in the hope that they could have free surgery,’ said GoodSurgeonGuide founder Christiana Clogg. ‘I understand that weight loss surgery may seem the easier option but it means putting your body under unnecessary stress. A healthier diet and increased exercise should always be the first thing overweight people consider – not gastric bands and liposuction.’ Only six per cent are ‘completely happy’ with their appearance and 14 per cent would ‘never’ consider having a cosmetic treatment. But 22 per cent would ask the NHS for a funded breast lift after breast feeding. And 43 per cent of mothers would request NHS surgery for their children if they were bullied because of their looks. More than 1,200 British women were questioned for the survey. ‘I think it’s very sad,’ said nutritionist Suzi Grant. ‘People should lose weight not because of vanity but because of their health. Surgery is a risk to your health. ‘The trouble is everybody just thinks of the quick fix.’
