Our sincere thanks for having us in your home when we attended the international relations conference last week. It gave us a chance to catch up on the news and get acquainted with your family. We especially enjoyed our evening conversations over dinner. I don’t think we’ll ever forget John’s funny stories.

We couldn’t have asked for a more enjoyable time than we had with you. You have an ideal home and family. We are fortunate to have such wonderful, thoughtful friends. How to write an acceptance letter?

1. Thank the person you are writing to for theinvitation.

2. Briefly mention what you are accepting.

3. Express your joy for the invitation.

4. Express your appreciation at the end of the letter again.  

First of all, every letter should have a date at the top of the page. Next, below the date, comes the greeting followed by the body of the letter and finally a salutation.

The greeting should start with:  “Dear (Somebody)”.

The body of the letter usually consists of three or four paragraphs.

The first paragraph is the introduction to your letter. You explain why you are writing the letter and in formal letters you state the reason for writing the letter – depending on the type of letter it is; thank you, request, complaint, inquiry, apology, application, etc.

In the following paragraph(s) you detail the purpose of your letter, the topic, in informal letters you write some information about yourself and ask about the friend you are writing to, reply to questions.

The last paragraph is about concluding the formal letter, saying good-bye in informal letters. 

There are some phrases that are usually used in this part, like: “I look forward to hearing from you”, “I hope to see you soon”, etc.

The salutation ends the letter: typically “Yours truly” for informal letters and “Sincerely” for formal ones, followed by your signature.

Hogyan írjunk köszönőlevelet angolul?

Elsősorban, minden levél tetején szerepelnie kell a keltezésnek. A dátum alatt következik az üdvözlés, majd a levél szövege és végül az elköszönés.

Az üdvözlést ajánlatos “Dear (Valaki)”-vel kezdeni.

Maga a levél általában három-négy bekezdésből áll.

Az első bekezdés tartalmazza a bevezető szöveget. Benne fejted ki, hogy miért írsz és a hivatalos levelekben közlöd a leveled célját – attól függően, hogy milyen típusú levelet kívánsz fogalmazni; köszönőlevél, kérelem, panaszlevél, érdeklődés, bocsánatkérés, jelentkezés, stb. 

Az ezt követő bekezdés(ek)ben részletezed a szándékaidat, a témát, nem hivatalos levelekben magadról írsz és érdeklődsz a címzett felől, kérdéseket válaszolsz meg.

Az utolsó bekezdés tartalmazza a hivatalos levél összegzését, a baráti levél elköszönő szövegét. 

Van egy pár gyakori kifejezés, ami itt használható, mint pl.: “I look forward to hearing from you”, “I hope to see you soon”, stb.

Az elköszönés zárja a levelet: jellegzetesen “Yours truly” a baráti, “Sincerely” a hivatalos leveleknél, majd az aláírásod.

Dear Aunt Patricia,

Thank you so much for lending us your holiday home! We have just got back and we had the most wonderful time!

I remember how much I loved our summers there in my childhood and it was just as great now. Especially, when we discovered that there was a new adventure park nearby. We went there to rest, but in the end, we spent the whole week hiking in the woods and going to the theme park.

I went with two of my friends and they adored your cottage. It was very homey and comfortable. One evening we even lit a fire in the fireplace. It was great!

I left the keys, as you told me, with your neighbor, Mrs. Munchkin. She was very sweet and helpful and sends her kisses.
