Nézzük először a legfontosabb formai szabályokat:

1. a megszólítás után (Kedves Pedro) nem felkiáltójel (!), hanem vessző jön (,)

2. a hivatalos levéllel ellentétben, itt lehet összevont alakokat használni (it’s, we’re, didn’t, stb.)

3. ha nagyon jól ismered a személyt, akinek írsz, akkor befejezheted a leveledet úgy, hogy: ‘Love’ vagy ‘Lots of love’

4. ha nem akarsz ennyire személyeskedő lenni, akkor ennyit írj a levél aljára elköszönésképpen: ‘Best wishes’ vagy ‘With best wishes’

Some advice on writing congratulation letters:

1.Write the congratulation letter as soon as possible after the big event. This is your chance to notice their special occasion. People love to receive a letter after a fortunate event takes place.

2. State the specific occasion.

3. At the beginning, express what motivated you to write your letter.

4. Express praise and approval. Outline the reader’s accomplishments and the good it has done or it will do.

5. Keep your congratulation letter simple and concise. Usually under one page in length is enough—You want the person to read it!

6. Be positive. Don’t include any negative comments or unhappy news.

7. Don’t exaggerate your congratulatory words. Your letter may seem sarcastic or mocking.

We are so sorry to hear of your accident. John and I had been wondering why we hadn’t seen you lately. I’m glad it wasn’t any worse than it was. You should be more careful in the future. Cleaning the windows is a dangerous job. We hope to visit you next week as we drive to Jacksonville. How to write an acceptance letter?

1. Thank the person you are writing to for theinvitation.

2. Briefly mention what you are accepting.

3. Express your joy for the invitation.

4. Express your appreciation at the end of the letter again.  

First of all, every letter should have a date at the top of the page. Next, below the date, comes the greeting followed by the body of the letter and finally a salutation.

The greeting should start with:  “Dear (Somebody)”.

The body of the letter usually consists of three or four paragraphs.

The first paragraph is the introduction to your letter. You explain why you are writing the letter and in formal letters you state the reason for writing the letter – depending on the type of letter it is; thank you, request, complaint, inquiry, apology, application, etc.

In the following paragraph(s) you detail the purpose of your letter, the topic, in informal letters you write some information about yourself and ask about the friend you are writing to, reply to questions.

The last paragraph is about concluding the formal letter, saying good-bye in informal letters. 

There are some phrases that are usually used in this part, like: “I look forward to hearing from you”, “I hope to see you soon”, etc.

The salutation ends the letter: typically “Yours truly” for informal letters and “Sincerely” for formal ones, followed by your signature.

Let’s see how a thank-you letter looks based on the general guidelines above:

Hogyan írjunk köszönőlevelet angolul?

Elsősorban, minden levél tetején szerepelnie kell a keltezésnek. A dátum alatt következik az üdvözlés, majd a levél szövege és végül az elköszönés.

Az üdvözlést ajánlatos “Dear (Valaki)”-vel kezdeni.

Maga a levél általában három-négy bekezdésből áll.
