Nézzük, hogy milyen prepozíciókat kell használni, amikor időről beszélünk!

ON          IN          AT

AT:  az idő (óra) kifejezésére használjuk, illetve minden olyan időegységre, ami kisebb, mint egy nap (kivéve reggel, délután, este – lásd később) – például: at 3 o’clock, at 10:30am, at noon, at dinnertime, at bedtime, at sunrise, at sunset, at the moment

ON: akkor használjuk, amikor napokról beszélünk (nem csak a hét napjaival, hanem mindennel, ami egy napra vonatkozik, pl. dátumok, születésnapok, évfordulók, stb.) – például: om Friday, on 6th of March, on Christmas Day, on my birthday, on New Year’s Eve

IN: olyan egységekkel használjuk, amelyek nagyobbak, mint egy nap (hét, hónap, év, stb.) – például: in June, in winter, in the summer, in 1990, in the 1980s, in the last century, in the Middle Ages, in the past

A következő standard, rögzült kifejezések is rendhagyóak (mert AT prepozíciót használunk velük függetlenül attól, hogy milyen hosszú időszakra vonatkoznak):

A THERE IS és a THERE ARE kifejezéseket akkor használjuk, amikor azt akarjuk elmondani, hogy valami van valahol. A THERE IS kifejezést egyes számban, a THERE ARE kifejezést pedig többes számban használjuk.

Láthatod, hogy a képekhez tartozó két mondat nagyon hasonlít egymásra, és tulajdonképpen a jelentésük is megegyezik, ugyanarra a kérdésre felelnek:

What is/are there +hely( pl. on the table/next to the house/on the street, stb.)?

What can you see +hely(pl. on the table/next to the house/on the street, stb.)?

Az ilyen there is/there are típusú mondatokkal soha nem válaszolhatsz olyan kérdésre, amely úgy kezdődik, hogy ‘Where…?’. A where, azaz a hol kérdőszóval kezdődő kérdésekre egy másik mondatszerkezettel válaszolunk:

Where is the book? The book is on the table.– Hol van a könyv? A könyv az asztalon van.   

Where are the children? The children are in the garden. – Hol vannak a gyerekek? A gyerekek a kertben vannak.        

Mivel a fenti mondatokban pontosan megmondtuk, hogy mi hol van, ezért nem kellett a there is/there are szerkezetet használunk. A there is/there are szerkezetet akkor használjuk, amikor azt akarjuk kifejezni, hogy valami(k) van(nak) valahol. Nézzük az összehasonlító példákat:

Ha a mondatot a helyhatározóval kezded, akkor mindenképpen a there is/there are szerkezetet kell használnod. Ha a főnév elé határozott névelő jön (the), akkor nem a there is/there are szerkezetet kell használni, viszont ha határozatlan névelő van a főnév előtt (a/an) vagy simán névelő nélkül többes számban van a főnév, akkor a there is/there are szerkezetet kell használnod!

HELYHATÁROZÓ PREPOZÍCIÓK

Míg a magyar nyelv határozóragokat (-ba/ -be, -ban/ -ben, -tól/ -től, -nak/ -nek, stb.) használ, amiket közvetlenül a szó végére ragaszt, addig az angol prepozíciókat alkalmaz ugyanerre a célra. Ahogy azt a neve is mutatja, a prepozíció „pre” pozícióban van, azaz megelőzi a szót, és nem íródik vele egybe soha.

Angolban a prepozíciókat két részre lehet osztani: prepositions of place és prepositions of time, azaz helyhatározóként és időhatározóként funkcionáló prepozíciók.

Ahhoz, hogy el tudd mondani, hogy mi hol van, meg kell tanulnod néhány prepozíciót.

3. Mary was waiting for me ….. the bus stop.

4. Why don’t you finish your homework …. the afternoon?

5. The movie starts ….. 5 o’clock.

Angolban a prepozíciókat két részre lehet osztani: prepositions of place és prepositions of time, azaz helyhatározóként és időhatározóként funkcionáló prepozíciók. 

A prepozícióknak az angolban nagyon sokféle jelentése és funkciója lehet, és igazán tisztán nem is lehet körvonalazni egyiknek sem a jelentését. Összegyűjtöttem egy táblázatba a leggyakoribb angol prepozíciókat, hely- és időhatározókat a használatukkal, és mindegyikhez írtam egy-egy példamondatot és megadtam a  magyar fordításukat is.
