2026 Parliamentary Elections in Hungary

Hungary will hold its next parliamentary election on 12 April 2026, using the same mixed electoral system introduced in 2012. Although the political landscape has changed dramatically since then, the structure of the voting system remains the same, combining single‑member constituencies with party‑list proportional representation.

Who Can Vote?

Every Hungarian citizen aged 18 or over has the right to vote in parliamentary elections. There are two main categories of voters:

Residents in Hungary: They receive two votes.
Hungarian citizens living abroad without a permanent Hungarian address: They receive one vote (for the party list only).

Minority voters may choose to vote for a national minority list instead of a party list.

How Many Seats Are There in Parliament?

Hungary’s National Assembly has 199 seats, unchanged since the 2012 reform:

106 constituency seats (single‑member districts)
93 list seats (party lists + minority lists)

Members of Parliament serve four‑year terms.

How Do the Two Votes Work?

1) Constituency Vote (106 seats)

Hungary is divided into 106 single‑member constituencies. Voters choose one candidate in their district. The candidate with the most votes wins – there is no second round.

2) Party List Vote (93 seats)

Voters also cast a vote for a party list (or a minority list). These votes determine how the 93 proportional seats are distributed.

To appear on the national list, a party must run candidates in at least 27 constituencies across 9 counties and Budapest.

Thresholds and Minority Lists

The threshold for entering Parliament is 5% of the national party‑list vote.
Joint lists have higher thresholds:
- 10% for two‑party lists
- 15% for lists of three or more parties
Minority lists do not have a percentage threshold. Instead, they must reach a “preferential quota”, which is significantly lower than the standard threshold.

How Are List Seats Allocated?

Hungary uses a compensatory system. List seats are allocated based on:

Party‑list votes
“Fragment votes” from constituencies (votes cast for losing candidates + surplus votes of winning candidates)

This system tends to favour larger parties, especially those with strong constituency performance.

Although the legal framework is the same, several practical and political factors have changed by 2026:

Constituency boundaries remain those introduced in 2012, but demographic shifts have made some districts significantly larger than others.
Hungarians abroad now participate in much higher numbers, especially from neighbouring countries.
The political environment has become more competitive in 2026, with new parties – most notably the Tisza Party – reshaping the landscape.
EU‑related rule‑of‑law debates and frozen funds have increased international attention on the election.
Campaigning is more digital, with social media playing a central role.

The electoral system itself, however, has not changed since 2014.

Number 4. In Australia they have an Easter Bilby instead of a bunny. Well, at least some people are trying to make that the case.

Number 1. The largest egg hunt in history was held at Cypress Gardens in 2007. The Florida theme park hid over half a million eggs. Nearly 10 thousand children and their parents scoured the grounds looking for them.

Oh, it’s very secure, yeah. And people follow the rules, except for one resident. Him. Unfazed by jurisdictional authority, he is the Canadian border-jumping kitty cat.

I think it’s because he’s got four legs, not two.

Decidedly confident, ignoring the watchful gaze of border agents and that machine in the sky that’s as useful as the dog as far as he’s concerned. Several times a day, almost every day, he shows little interest in international law and carries on his very important work of mousing.

He’s a cool little cat, keeps coming back and forth and says hello to everybody.

Louis.

Officially, Louis Vuitton, like the designer. And his styling cross-border feline feats are now so famous.

I love it.

He’s become a local legend and a social media star.

It’s a bit mind-blowing.

He kind of flaunts his recklessness for the law.

Easter Traditions in Hungary

There are many customs and traditions surrounding Easter in Hungary, and most of them are about celebrating spring and rebirth. Traditional Easter meals are ham, braided loaf and boiled eggs and pickled horseradish. The ham is first eaten on Holy Saturday evening, at the end of Lent. On Easter Sunday, the traditional festive food is lamb.

In some areas of Hungary, Easter Monday is the day of sprinkling. In old times, young girls were dragged out by force to the well or the water trough and poured with a bucket of water or taken by the creek and bathed. Men used to go from house to house to sprinkle girls while singing and rhyming, for which they got red eggs in return. Today, perfume is used for sprinkling instead of water.

The reward of sprinkling was and is still food and drink, mostly spirits, and painted eggs. Eggs are ancient fertility symbols, and the allegory of resurrection in the Christian Church’s symbolism.

Egg painting is one of the oldest traditions, in fact it’s older than Hungary – painted eggs were found in some graves dating back to the pre-Magyar times. The technique was refined over the centuries and each region developed its unique and distinctive motives. Egg decorating became a form of art and it’s still part of the Easter celebrations today.

On Easter Sunday the Easter bunny brings presents for the kids, which they have to find during the Easter egg hunt.

Legendary actor Chuck Norris has died at the age of 86 following a medical emergency in Hawaii, it has been announced – it comes just 10 days after he marked his 86th birthday.

Acting icon Chuck Norris has died at the age of 86. The sad news was announced today just a few hours after Chuck was said to have been taken into hospital after suffering a medical emergency in Hawaii.

Chuck, who had shown off his incredible fitness as he celebrated his 86th birthday just 10 days ago on March 10, was known for his talented martial arts skills and his acting. The iconic actor – who was a household name – was known for movies such as The Expendables, The Delta Force, Silent Rage and more. Chuck became a pop culture icon for his legendary roundhouse kick, which was featured in his show Walker, Texas Ranger.

The family shared a statement following the news on Chuck’s Instagram. It read: “It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.

TMZ reported that sources claimed to them that a medical emergency occurred within the last 24 hours and Chuck was rushed to hospital on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. It is claimed that Chuck was ‘in good spirits’ and ‘cracking jokes’ before being taken into hospital.

Just 10 days ago, Chuck turned 86 and marked the occasion by showing off his incredible martial arts skills in a video, as he told fans: “I don’t age, I level up”. The clip sees him showing off his incredible moves sparring with a partner with boxing gloves on.

He then added in the caption: “I don’t age. I level up. I’m 86 today! Nothing like some playful action on a sunny day to make you feel young. I’m grateful for another year, good health and the chance to keep doing what I love. Thank you all for being the best fans in the world. Your support through the years has meant more to me than you’ll ever know. God Bless, Chuck Norris”.

The Story of Saint Patrick

Born in Wales to wealthy parents at the end of the 4th century, at the tender age of 16, young Patrick was taken prisoner by a group of Irish raiders and whisked across the Irish Sea, where he spent the next six years in captivity working as a lonely shepherd. His religion was his solace, and so he became a devout Christian.

After six years, Patrick heard God’s voice telling him it was time to leave Ireland, so he escaped from his captors and made his way back home. Here, he had another vision from an angel who told him he should go back to preach Christianity to the Irish. After 14 years studying to be a priest, Patrick returned to Ireland where he built churches and spread the Christian faith for the next 30 years until his death on March 17th, 460AD.

St. Patrick is said to be buried in Down Cathedral in Downpatrick, County Down, Northern Ireland. Since his death, March 17th has become the day set aside for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide. Why do people wear green?

With 10 times the population of Ireland in the US claiming Irish ancestry, one in four Britons doing the same, and countless more in other countries around the world, it seems that people wishing to become ‘Irish for the day’ have opted for the green of the Irish flag to express their Irishness. In fact, in the US, it’s not uncommon to spot folks sporting hand-drawn shamrocks on their cheeks with streaks of green running through their hair. Some cities like Chicago go all out and dye the entire Chicago River green just to mark the big day!

What about the Shamrock?

St. Patrick used this simple green herb to explain the concept of The Holy Trinity – The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit – and how they could all exist as separate elements of the same entity. His followers adopted the custom of wearing a shamrock on his feast day.

And here’s something you mightn’t know…

The Irish didn’t always look so kindly on donning the colour green. Irish folklore considered the colour unlucky as it was the favourite shade of the Good People – leprechauns. Those who wore too much of the colour – especially children – could be stolen away. Some cynics may tell you there are no such things as leprechauns, but there are those who beg to differ. True believers will swear that if you take a stroll along a quiet country lane in Ireland, you can actually hear the mischievous leprechauns giggling by the side of the road.

A lángok olyan gyorsan terjedtek, hogy a környék ikonikus, viktoriánus kori épületei pillanatok alatt veszélybe kerültek. A tűz különösen a Union Corner nevű, 19. századi műemléki házat érintette, amelynek kupolája végül a hőség és a szerkezeti károk miatt összeomlott.

A látvány egyszerre volt drámai és szívszorító: a város egyik legismertebb utcája füstbe burkolózott, miközben több mint hatvan tűzoltó küzdött a lángokkal. A helyszín közvetlenül a Glasgow Central pályaudvar mellett található, így nem csupán egy épület sérült meg — a város közlekedése is megbénult. Skócia legforgalmasabb vasútállomását teljesen lezárták, a vonatok pedig órákon át nem közlekedtek.

A skót miniszterelnök, John Swinney „kolosszális incidensnek” nevezte a történteket, és jelezte: a helyreállítás hosszú és költséges folyamat lesz. A város azonban már most összefogott — a glasgow-iak számára nem csupán egy épület omlott össze, hanem egy darab a város történetéből is.

We actually just got there and then unpacked, went out for a short walk and then couldn’t get back into the hotel.

As the night progressed, it just got bigger and bigger.

I saw a video of when the dome collapsed on the top.

And that was, that wasn’t nice to see.

Yeah, it was devastating, really.

But unfortunately, all our belongings are still in the hotel and we’ve no idea of when we’re actually going to be getting them back again.

They gave us an extra room in the hotel next door.

We’re still there.

We lost, we missed the flight today, so we stay another night.

I’ve been seeing all like the kind of businesses that just like don’t have a place to go now.

So yeah, it’s a real shame.

There should be some sort of restoration budget like they’ve done it for the art school, didn’t they?

For many, a workplace dress code is a minor annoyance. But for Emily Benschoter, a rule against “unnatural” hair color wasn’t just an inconvenience – it was a direct challenge to her identity. Her response has since become a legendary tale of malicious compliance, turning a rigid corporate policy into a source of daily joy for her and the internet.

The conflict began when Benschoter, 29, landed a new front-of-house role in the hospitality industry. Speaking with Newsweek, she explained that since she was hired without a face-to-face interview, her new manager had no idea that she was, as she put it, a “self-expressive person” who felt most confident with her vibrant, dark-pink hair. Before her first shift, her manager informed her that the company had a strict policy: natural hair colors only.

Benschoter was faced with a classic dilemma: change a core part of her identity for a job, or walk away. She chose a third, far more brilliant option. “Dyeing my hair for a job I work at for 40 hours per week wasn’t an option,” she said. “I came up with a solution to keep the job and my hair.”

That solution was wigs. But Benschoter had no intention of finding a subtle, natural-looking wig to blend in. If the company wanted to erase her personality, she was going to comply in the most ridiculous, over-the-top way possible. She began showing up to work each day in a different, gloriously bad wig. One day it was a cheap blonde bob, the next a spiky punk-rock mess, then a mullet, and so on. She was adhering to the “natural color” rule, but making a mockery of the spirit behind it.

She started documenting her daily transformations on her TikTok, @emuhleeebee, where she quickly went viral. In one video, with the caption “When you have pink hair but corporate does not approve so you wear wigs,” she poses expressively in a particularly unconvincing blonde number. Her hilarious protest resonated with thousands, who flooded her comments with support.

“Please tell me that the second you clock out you’re holding the wig in your hand just so they know,” one user wrote. Her followers became so invested that they asked for a wishlist to buy her even more absurd wigs. Soon, she had requests for a “founding father” wig, a bald cap, and other hilarious options.

She happily obliged, turning the whole situation into a collaborative performance. “I prefer my pink hair, it’s me to my core,” Benschoter told Newsweek. “So now I purposely pick wacky wigs which are quite funny”.

Azért, mert humoros, túlzó módon reagált a szabályra, és a videók szórakoztatták az embereket; sokan azonosultak a helyzettel.
Támogató kommenteket írtak, és kérték, hogy készítsen kívánságlistát, hogy még több vicces parókát vehessenek neki.
