The fate of a Devon dog is unknown after a seagull swooped down and carried the miniature chihuahua away in its beak, its owner said. Becca Hill, 24, of Paignton, is hoping four-year-old Gizmo will be found alive.

She said: ‘My partner was in the garden putting the washing out at the time and suddenly he saw it swoop down. ‘It carried Gizmo a fair way as we couldn’t see him anymore. I have no idea if he was dropped or where he is now.’

She also posted about Gizmo on Facebook. ‘Please, please, please, anyone finds a chihuahua he’s mine, a seagull took him from my garden,’ she wrote. Ms Hill said her six-year-old daughter is ‘really upset’ and ‘missing her dog’. Fortunately, the child did not witness Gizmo being taken away.

Chinese billionaire gives away entire fortune to charity, leaving his family nothing

A property mogul has decided to donate his entire £1.2 billion pound fortune to charity, leaving his wife and kids with nothing.

Self-made billionaire Yu Pengnian began his working life as a penniless rickshaw driver but at the age of 88, is one of the richest people in mainland China. You’d imagine that someone who had built such a fortune from nothing, would want to share their wealth with their family but in the case of Pengnian, you’d be wrong. Seeing as his family might be a little upset by the news, you might think he’d break it to them gently and quietly.

However, Pengnian chose to hold a press conference to make the startling announcement that they will get absolutely nothing. Instead his vast fortune will be given to a foundation he established five years ago to provide aid to his favourite causes including student scholarships, reconstruction work following the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, and operations for those, like him, who suffer from cataracts.

Luckily for the eccentric philanthropist, who lives in the five star Panglin Hotel, in Shenzhen, his family are in full support of his decision, although he admits he would have given it all away with or without their backing. He said: "I don’t care what others think. It makes me happy to give my money away. I used to be poor."

EIGHT firefighters called to rescue dog which became stuck inside reclining chair

Princess, the corgi was snoozing under the chair but became trapped when her owner sat down. A team of eight firemen had to dismantle a reclining chair to rescue the dog. Three-year-old corgi Princess got stuck in the scissor mechanism.

Firefighters in Ammanford, near Swansea, said the owner had tried to free the pet by unscrewing nuts and bolts from the recliner. Rescuer Jason Cadman said: “The owner was relieved when we got her out, and the dog was wagging her tail so she was happy too.”

The Welsh corgi is a small type of herding dog that originated in Wales. Outside Wales, corgis have been made popular by Queen Elizabeth II who has at least four in her retinue at all times. Watch the moment a 300mph meteor narrowly misses a skydiver.

Amazing video footage shows the moment a meteor flying at 300mph came within metres of hitting a skydiver mid-air. Anders Helstrup had just deployed his parachute when the rock came flying past him. Experts believe it may have been a meteor in ‘dark flight’ – the part of its descent when it has stopped glowing. If so, this is the very first time the phenomenon has been witnessed and caught on camera.

Geologist Hans Amundsen told NRK.no that he was convinced what fell past the skydiver in south-east Norway was indeed a meteor. ‘It can’t be anything else. The shape is typical of meteorites – a fresh fracture surface on one side, while the other side is rounded,’ he said.

At the time Mr Helstrup had no idea a falling rock had flown past him – it was only thanks to a camera attached to his helmet that he spotted it. ‘I got the feeling that there was something, but I didn’t register what was happening,’ he explained. The skydiver and scientists from Norway’s Natural History Museum are now searching for the meteoroid but so far their hunt has been fruitless.
