SHOULD / OUGHT TO módbeli segédigék használata

SHOULD és az OUGHT TO mindketten módbeli segédigék, és tulajdonképpen a jelentésük is nagyjából ugyanaz: kellene/ kéne. A SHOULD sokkal gyakoribb, mint az OUGHT TO. A használatuk nagyon könnyű, ugyanúgy kell alkalmazni őket, mint magyarul a kellene szót. Nézzük is hát, hogy milyen esetekben kell használni ezt a két módbeli segédigét.

JAVASLAT

I should learn more English words/I ought to learn more English words. – Több angol szót kéne tanulnom.
You should see the doctor./You ought to see the doctor. – El kéne menned az orvoshoz.

Ahogy az a példákból is látszik, a SHOULD illetve az OUGHT TO használatával javaslatokat tudsz adni valakinek (általában a közel jövőre vonatkozólag: tehát kinek mit kéne/ nem kéne csinálnia).

Come quickly! You should see this! – Gyere gyorsan! Ezt látnod kellene!
You should drink a lot of hot tea! – the doctor said to the patient. – Sok meleg teát kéne innia! – mondta az orvos a betegnek.

LEHETŐSÉG KIFEJEZÉSE

The train should be here very soon. – A vonatnak hamarosan itt kellene lennie.

Akkor is a SHOULD módbeli segédigét kell használni, ha azt szeretnénk kifejezni, hogy valami nagy valószínűséggel be fog következni.

You shouldn’t touch that! – Nem kéne hozzányúlnod!

Ha szeretnék tanácsot adni valakinek, akkor a következő kifejezéseket használd:

I think … should …
I don’t think … should …

I think your husband should lose some weight. – Azt gondolom, a férjednek le kéne adnia pár kilót.
Yes, and I think he shouldn’t drink so much beer! – Igen, és azt gondolom nem kellene annyi sört innia.

Ha meg szeretnéd kérdezni valakinek a véleményét valamiről, akkor a következő kifejezést használd:

Do you think … should?

Nobody wants to employ me. Do you think I should change my style? – Senki nem akar alkalmazni. Gondolod, hogy meg kéne változtatnom a stílusomat?
