A delicious chicken pie to feed the whole family. The chicken and leek filing is tasty and moist, topped with ready-made puff pastry.

Ingredients

  • 1.5kg free-range chicken
  • 1 carrot, peeled, cut into chunks
  • 2 celery sticks, cut into chunks
  • 2 onions, peeled and chopped
  • 2 bay leaf
  • 1 tbs olive oil
  • 2 leeks, trimmed and sliced thickly
  • 150g bacon lardons, smoked or unsmoked
  • 60g butter
  • 60g plain flour
  • 3 tbs crème fraîche, optional
  • 1 tbs coarse-grain mustard
  • a few thyme sprigs
  • salt and ground black pepper
  • 375g pack ready-made puff pastry
  • a little beaten egg
  • 1.5-2 litre (2½-3½ pints) pie dish

Preparation

1. Put the chicken in a large pot with the carrots, celery and an onion. Add a bay leaf and pour in enough cold water to cover. Put a lid on the pan, bring to the boil, then simmer, uncovered, for about 45 mins until the chicken meat starts to fall off the bone.
2. Take the chicken out and set aside for about 20 mins. Put the pan back on the heat, bring the stock to the boil and simmer for an hour to reduce it. As soon as the chicken is cool enough to handle, take the meat off the bones and add the bones to the stockpot for extra flavour.
3. Heat the oil in another pan, and add the other onion and leeks. Fry for about 5 mins, stirring. Add the bacon and fry for 5 mins more. Put into pie dish with bite-sized chunks of chicken.
4. Add the butter and flour to the pan, and cook, stirring to make a paste. Remove bones before gradually adding 600ml (1 pint) of the hot chicken stock to make a smooth sauce. Let it boil for a couple of mins, then add the crème fraîche, if using, and the mustard, the other bay leaf, thyme leaves and seasoning. Pour over chicken and leeks in the dish and stir well. Leave to cool.
5. Roll out the pastry just a little larger than the top of the pie dish and cut out. Brush the edge of the dish with egg, fit some trimmings round it, then put the cut-out pastry on top. Press down well to seal, trim off excess pastry and roughen up edges. Roll out trimmings to make decorative “leaves”. Make a small hole in the top and arrange the “leaves” on the pastry top. Chill the pie while the oven heats up.
6. Set the oven to Gas Mark 6 or 200°C. Heat a baking sheet in it. Brush pastry with egg. Put the dish on the baking sheet. Bake for 30-40 mins until the pastry is golden and the filling is bubbling up.

Billie Jean is about a woman who claims that Michael Jackson is the father of her child, which he firmly denies. The song explores the darker side of fame: false accusations, manipulation, and the blurred line between truth and lies.

10 húsvéti érdekesség https://www.5percangol.hu/news_of_the_world/10-fun-facts-about-easter/ Sun, 05 Apr 2026 22:51:02 +0000 https://cmsteszt.5percangol.hu/10-fun-facts-about-easter/ 10 Fun Facts About Easter

While you count down the hours until the Easter Bunny drops off your candy, check out these 10 uncommon facts about the holiday.

“I am really special.” [Bunny]
“What are you doing?” [Man]
“See” [Bunny]

Easter is coming, and, if you’re like many people around the US, you’re anxiously anticipating the arrival of the Easter Bunny – and several pounds of chocolate and candy.

While you count down the hours, check out these 10 uncommon facts about the holiday.

Number 10. Most Americans agree on how to eat a chocolate bunny. 76 percent say the proper way to do it is ears first.

Number 9. Some world traditions are incredibly elaborate. In Guatemala, for example, carpets stretching up to a mile-long are made from flowers and sawdust during the weeks before Easter. On the day of the holiday, people walk on it on their way to church.

Number 8. There’s an Easter egg worth over 8 million dollars. Described as a cross between a Faberge and the Damien Hirst skull, the ornament is covered with over a thousand diamonds. Nested inside is a gold egg with a rock crystal dove inside that.

Number 7. The Easter Bunny has a mysterious past. Details of its emergence as a symbol of the holiday are sketchy, but according to history.com, it traveled to America with the Germans in the 1700’s. The country has long told stories about an egg-laying hare

“We’d like to apologize for the Easter Bunny.”

Number 6. The holiday brings out some people’s inner jokester. Perhaps giddy because it’s springtime, manufacturers make all sorts of goofy merchandise for Easter. Notable among the stuff is a card that features terrified eggs, a dish of colored liquid, and the caption ‘Where Eggs Come To Dye‘.

Number 5. Egg decorating goes back hundreds of years. History.com says that the tradition dates back to the 13th century. At the time, eggs were a mandatory Lenten sacrifice, so in preparation for the day they could once again be enjoyed, people made them extra special by embellishing them.

Number 4. In Australia they have an Easter Bilby instead of a bunny. Well, at least some people are trying to make that the case

“Bilbys can be found only in Australia. They are endemic to this country. There’s nothing like them anywhere else in the world.” [ABC Radio Australia]

Number 3. The annual White House Easter Egg Roll used to be held at the U.S. Capitol. Concerns for the preservation of the terraced lawn led to the signing of a bill that outlawed the use of the location.

Number 2. A seriously large amount of candy is sold for the holiday. Annually, about 2 billion dollars worth of sweet stuff ends up in the hands, baskets, and stomachs of American consumers.

Number 1. The largest egg hunt in history was held at Cypress Gardens in 2007. The Florida theme park hid over half a million eggs. Nearly 10 thousand children and their parents scoured the grounds looking for them.

All about Easter – Minden, amit a húsvétról angolul tudni kell https://www.5percangol.hu/kozepfoku_hanganyagok/all_about_easter_-_mp3/ Wed, 01 Apr 2026 22:00:19 +0000 https://cmsteszt.5percangol.hu/all_about_easter_-_mp3/ ALL ABOUT EASTER

Easter is a Christian holiday, when Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. According to the Bible, Jesus has returned from the dead three days after his death on the cross. Christians believe that Easter is the holiest day in the year, and is celebrated on the first Sunday, following the first full moon, and the first day of spring. As part of the Easter season, the death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion is commemorated on Good Friday, always the Friday just before Easter. In Western Christianity Easter marks the ending of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline in preparation for Easter.  Lent begins  on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday. It’s a kind of spiritual discipline in preparation for Easter. Eastern Orthodox churches observe Lent or Great Lent, during the 6 weeks or 40 days preceding Palm Sunday with fasting continuing during the Holy Week of Easter. Lent for Eastern Orthodox churches begins on Monday and Ash Wednesday is not observed.

EASTER CALENDAR

Shrove Tuesday – húshagyó kedd
The day before the first day of the Christian period of Lent. In the UK, Shrove Tuesday is also known as Pancake Day (or Pancake Tuesday to some people) because it is the one day of the year when almost everyone eats a pancake.

Ash Wednesday – hamvazó szerda
The date of Ash Wednesday varies each year according to the date of Easter. It is always six-and-a-half weeks before Easter. The earliest possible date of Ash Wednesday is 4 February and the latest possible date is 10 March. Ash Wednesday is a Christian festival. It marks the beginning of six and a half weeks of repentance, fasting and abstinence in preparation for the most important Christian festival of Easter.

Palm Sunday – virágvasárnap
Palm Sunday is the sixth and last Sunday of Lent and the beginning of Holy Week. On Palm Sunday Christians celebrate the Triumphal Entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the week before his death and resurrection.

Holy Week is the week before Easter, commemorating events in the last days of Jesus’ life on Earth. It begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Monday.

Maundy Thursday – nagycsütörtök
The Thursday before Easter. Also referred to as “Holy Thursday” or “Great Thursday” in some Christian denominations. It is the feast or holy day on the Thursday before Easter that commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles. During the meal Jesus took bread and wine and shared them with his disciples. Christians continue to share bread and wine as part of their worship in church.

THE LAST SUPPER: The Last Supper was probably a Passover meal – the meal which Jewish people share together to celebrate the time when God delivered Moses and the people from slavery in Egypt. The night of Maundy Thursday is the night on which Jesus was betrayed by Judas in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Good Friday – nagypéntek
The Friday before the Christian holiday of Easter, that Christians remember as the day Jesus Christ was crucified. On this day Christians commemorate the passion, or suffering, and death on the cross of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Easter Sunday (Easter Day)- húsvét vasárnap
The most holy of Christian sacred days. The day commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from his death by crucifixion. Christians gather together on Easter Sunday for a Sunrise Service. This service takes place on a hillside so everyone can see the sun rise.

Easter Monday – húsvét hétfő
Easter Monday, another UK Public Holiday, has little religious significance but is the occasion for numerous secular customs.

Ascension Day – áldozó csütörtök

On Good Friday, Jesus died on the cross. On Easter Sunday, he came back to life. During the forty days which followed that first Easter, he kept appearing to his followersAscension Day marks the last appearance of Jesus to the disciples after his resurrection at Easter. The name ‘ascension’ comes from the accounts in the Bible in Mark’s Gospel and Luke’s Gospel that tell of Jesus being taken up into heaven – he ascended.

]]> Does Your Dog Love You? – Vajon szeret a kutyád? https://www.5percangol.hu/2024-marciusi-szam/does-your-dog-love-you-vajon-szeret-a-kutyad/ Sun, 08 Mar 2026 23:03:47 +0000 https://www.5percangol.hu/?p=108538 Does your dog love you? Sometimes it can be difficult to tell. Humans don’t naturally understand dog body language. This is because it isn’t identical to human body language. For example, most dogs don’t enjoy hugs as humans do. So, it can be hard to tell what they’re thinking. Because of this, you sometimes have to learn what their signals mean. Here are eight different behaviors your dog may use to show they love you:

Does your dog like to give you kisses? Dogs love to give kisses. Your dog may like to lick your face, or they may lick your hands instead. If your dog enjoys giving you kisses, this is a sure sign that they love you.

Does your dog bow in front of you? When a dog stretches out their front legs and lifts up their butt, the stretch resembles a little bow. Of course, this sometimes means, “I want to stretch before we play.” At other times, it’s a show of respect. Finally, of course, it can mean your dog loves you.

Does your dog want to sleep in your bed? Certainly, some dog trainers believe this is a show of dominance. But more often than not, it just means your dog trusts you. It can also mean they want to be close to you. This is a good sign.

Does your dog wag his tail when you approach? If a dog wags his tail as you approach, this suggests they’re excited to see you. This is a great sign suggesting that they love you.

Does your dog maintain eye contact? Indeed, looking into your eyes is one way your dog may try to bond with you. This should not be attempted with a dog you don’t know. This is because a dog that doesn’t know you may view eye contact as a challenge. But a dog that knows you will use eye contact to get close to you. Scientists know that sustained eye contact between dogs and their humans unleashes a hormone in both that is associated with love. Sustained eye contact is a very good sign that your dog loves you.

Does your dog blink at you? Just like cats, dogs sometimes use blinking during eye contact to show goodwill. Indeed, it means that they desire peaceful interaction with you. If your dog blinks as you engage in eye contact, this is an additional sign that they love you.

Does your dog like to be near you? Some dogs enjoy snuggling more than others. If your dog doesn’t enjoy snuggling, you shouldn’t necessarily take this as a sign that they don’t love you. But a dog that loves you will want to be near you. This could mean sitting in your lap, resting beside you on the couch, or sitting near your feet on the floor.

Does your dog sit on your feet? Sometimes a dog will try to sit on your feet. This may seem a little confusing at first. The good news is, it just means they want to be close to you. As already established, wanting to be close to you is a sure sign that your dog loves you.

Dogs are fascinating creatures. Since they cannot talk to us, it is sometimes hard to figure out how they’re feeling. But they find all kinds of ways to show love. Just knowing a little bit about their body language and signals should be reassuring. If you answered yes to some of these questions, you should feel secure in the knowledge that your dog does indeed love you.

A wife in Taiwan was recently granted a divorce from her husband, who she accused of ignoring her – and her unanswered text messages were a key piece of evidence.

The wife sent her husband messages via the Line app for six months. The messages were marked as read — meaning he presumably opened and read them – and yet the wife rarely, if ever, got a reply. At one point, the wife sent her husband messages saying she was in the emergency room and demanding to know why he wasn’t answering her messages.

The judge in family court saw the unanswered messages (and the terse, unemotional replies the wife did occasionally get) and concluded the wife had enough grounds for a divorce. The defendant did not inquire about the plaintiff, and the information sent by the plaintiff was read but not replied to. The couple’s marriage is beyond repair.
