Happy birthday to the Queen! On 21^st of April Her Majesty celebrated her actual birthday (as opposed to her official birthday, which falls in June). Here’s a complete guide to why we celebrate her birthday twice each year.

So the Queen gets two birthdays? Yep. Her Majesty was born on April 21, 1926 and she turned 93 this year. She will celebrate her official birthday on June 14.

Why does she get two? It’s tradition – the sovereign is given two birthdays if their birth date is not in the summer. This is because there will be a better chance of good weather for the birthday parade, called Trooping the Colour, which is a ceremony performed by regiments of the British and Commonwealth armies.

Have other kings and queens done this? Yes. All British monarchs have been given the option of having two birthdays since 1748. Edward VII, whose birthday fell in November, did it too.

Does she get presents? And cake? Well, we don’t know. The Queen celebrates her actual birthday in private (although last year she spent the day at the races) but we like to think she tucks into a very regal slice of birthday cake on occasion. At midday on April 21, she gets a 41 gun salute in Hyde Park, a 21 gun salute in Windsor Great Park and a 62 gun salute at the Tower of London.

So surely this is a national holiday. Do we get a day off? No, but you’re welcome to toast her if you like. Some places in the Commonwealth (such as Australia and New Zealand) get a public holiday on her official birthday, but we’re not so lucky.

The inventor who revolutionized the personal computer. The son of a lawyer and dropped out student of Harvard University who has become the owner of  the world’s largest personal computer software company, Microsoft, though he had no formal business training.  Once he commented that he wished he were not the richest man in the world because he disliked the attention it brought.

Most people know three things about Bill Gates: He’s the richest man in America, he co-founded one of the most successful tech companies of all time in Microsoft, and he’s an extremely generous philanthropist through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

But there are a lot of things about Gates you probably didn’t know.

As a young teenager at Lakeside Prep School, Gates wrote his first computer program on a General Electric computer — it was a version of tic-tac-toe, where you could play against the computer.

Once his school realized Gates’ proclivities for coding, they let him write the school’s computer program for scheduling students in classes. He even slyly altered the code so he was placed in classes with a “disproportionate number of interesting girls.”

Like many other successful tech entrepreneurs, Gates was a college dropout. He left Harvard University in 1975 to fully devote himself to Microsoft.

Gates was once arrested in New Mexico, in 1977. He was driving without a license and ran a red light.

He also shelled out $21 million for a private jet, an understandable expenditure for a man with so much global business. And then there’s his estate in Medina, Washington: Valued at more than $120 million and nicknamed “Xanadu 2.0,” the 66,000-square-foot behemoth has a private beach, an Art Deco home theater, a 60-foot pool with an underwater sound system and a trampoline room.

And a very fresh piece of news: Amancio Ortega, who transformed clothing group Inditex from a tiny family dressmaker into Spain’s biggest company, briefly overtook Bill Gates on Friday October 25^th 2015 to become the world’s richest man.

Although a 10 percent surge in the share price of Microsoft later on Friday put the software firm’s founder Gates back on top, the brief appearance of Ortega at the summit of the Forbes “real time” global rich list was hailed in Spain as a milestone.

At one point on Friday, Forbes put Ortega’s fortune at $79.9 billion more than Gates’. Later in the day, thanks to fluctuations in the euro as well as the surge in Microsoft, Gates had $79.3 billion and Ortega a mere $78.5 billion.

In honour of what would have been John Lennon’s 75th birthday, Yoko Ono will attempt to orchestrate the world’s largest human peace sign.

Rolling Stone reports the event will take place on Oct. 6 in New York City’s Central Park, commemorating the late Beatle, who was born on Oct. 9, 1940 and assassinated in 1980.

Ono hopes to convene between 6,000 and 10,000 people at the park’s East Meadow and arrange participants into a peace sign before an aerial photograph is taken at 12:30 p.m. If enough people attend, the tribute will break the Guinness World Record of 5,814 people.

Ono announced the event outside New York’s city hall on Thursday, where a group of city officials and children held a Lennon sing-along. In the month leading up to Lennon’s birthday, the “John Lennon Educational Tour Bus,” a nonprofit mobile audio and video recording facility, will be stationed at different locations across the city for educational programs.

The parents of Alex Nash have been sent an invoice for failing to attend the birthday party and threatened with legal action if they do not pay

The parents of a five-year-old schoolboy have been invoiced for failing to attend a school friend’s birthday party and have been threatened with legal action if they do not pay.

Derek Nash and Tanya Walsh found a brown envelope with a £15.95 “no show fee” left in their son Alex’s schoolbag last week, sent by his classmate’s mother Julie Lawrence.

Lawrence claims that Alex’s failure to attend her child’s birthday party has left her out of pocket, and that his parents had her details to tell her that their son would not be attending.

Nash said he had been told he would be taken to small claims court for refusing to pay.

It all started with an invitation to the birthday party just before Christmas at the Plymouth Ski Slope and Snowboard Centre. Alex – who attends a local nursery in Torpoint, Cornwall – told his parents he wanted to go, so they confirmed he would be at the party.

However, his parents realised on the day that Alex had been double-booked to spend time with his grandparents.

His mother told Apex News, “Julie Lawrence and I weren’t friends, we didn’t talk to each other at school, but I felt bad about Alex not going to the party.”

“I searched for the party invite afterwards and I’m not sure we even had one.”

She added: “But to be invoiced like this is so over the top – I’ve never heard of anything like it. It’s a terrible way of handling it – it’s very condescending.”

Nash said he did not have the contact details of Julie Lawrence, and so could not let her know on the day.

After he found the letter he visited Lawrence, as her address was on the invoice, and “told her I would not be paying her the money”.

“It was a proper invoice with full official details and even her bank details on it.” He added: “I can understand that she’s upset about losing money. The money isn’t the issue, it’s the way she went about trying to get the money from me.”

“She didn’t treat me like a human being,” he said.

In a short statement, Lawrence said: “All details were on the party invite. They had every detail needed to contact me.

Funnyman Rowan Atkinson, who celebrated his 60th birthday on 6 January, stole our hearts 25 years ago, when the first episode of “Mr Bean” aired. Each one of the episodes centred around the mischievous and funny Englishman has been watched and rewatched by viewers across the world.

An unknown user not only spread the rumour, but even created a condolence page on Facebook titled “RIP Rowan Atkinson”. The page, which got over a million likes, claimed that the actor died around 11.00 am ET on Sunday and requested fans to show their sympathy and condolences by “liking” the page. Many fans believed the story and posted messages on Facebook as well as Twitter expressing their sorrow.

It was later clarified that the then 58-year-old was in fact alive and kicking.
