Want to get hitched but don’t have a man? Head to Japan where a company sells ‘solo weddings’

Do you dream of having a white wedding, but despair at the lack of a man in your life to share the big day with? You’re not alone – a new trend is cropping up in the Far East for solo weddings. As women become financially independent, they are putting off settling down with partners until later on in life. But they still want the all-about-me no-expense-spared party that comes with getting hitched, without actually having to tie the knot.

Travel company Cera Travel in Kyoto, a city in southern Japan, has started a new service called ‘Solo Wedding.’ It lets single women enjoy all the fun and glamour of the day, including spending the honeymoon night in a fancy hotel. The two-day trip sees the clients get dress fittings, choose their own bouquets, get their hair and make-up done and even choose a man to accompany them for a photo shoot.

The service started in June and is aimed at single, working women who have decided to pursue careers instead of follow the traditional Japanese route of getting married. It is also being marketed at women who have been divorced but want to feel special again. So far ten women have taken up the offer, which costs around £1,700 ($2,750).

A spokesman for the company said: ‘It is a truly unique experience and one that we are very proud of. All the details are taken care of by wedding professionals and for those who don’t want a traditional white wedding dress we offer our Geisha service, which sees the brides going on an historical photo shoot dressed up as Geishas.’

Businesswoman Nagi Daisen, 43, said: ‘I’ve been in a relationship for years but we’ve never got round to actually getting married. So I decided to do this for myself and it was amazing fun. I always wanted to wear a wedding dress and to be pampered like this and now I have been. It was great.’

The honeymoon night does not include the model used for the photo shoot, although the company said the women mostly invited their boyfriends to join them in the honeymoon suite after the ‘wedding’ was over.

source: Daily Mail

True or false?

1. The new service is aimed at women whose boyfriend has refused to get married.

2. The brides get to pick the dress, the flowers and have their hair and make-up done.

3. The brides can choose between a white dress and a traditional Geisha outfit.

4. Japanese women traditionally pursue careers.

5. The trip includes a night at an elegant hotel with whoever the brides want to take along.

10 Myths about Lightning

While Sir Anthony Hopkins may be nonchalant about a lightning strike — in reality it’s no fun at all. Here are 10 myths about lightning that you should know.

Number 10 — Lighting strikes have no preference when it comes to humans. Well that’s not true, specifically pertaining to gender. Data released by the Centers for Disease Control found that lightning is 6 times more likely to kill American men than women. Why that is remains a mystery.

Number 9– Lightning only hits in streaks. It actually occurs in several differing forms including ball, beaded, ribbon and sheet.

Number 8 — As soon as the thunder stops, you’re safe. Even if the sky quickly clears, you should maintain cover for 30 minutes after hearing the last thunderclap.

Number 7 — Here’s another fallacy – if struck by lightning, the chances of survival are slim. Roughly 90 percent of victims survive, but it’s worthwhile to point out, many are left disabled.

Number 6 — Metal buildings attract lighting. In reality, the best protection from lighting is to seek shelter in a steel framed building. Where it will strike is more related to an isolated location, along with the height or shape of a structure.

Number 5 — If stranded outside during a storm, seek shelter under a tree. DON’T EVER DO THIS! Resting under a tree is the second leading cause of lightning related deaths.

Number 4 — The rubber tires of your car or soles of your shoes protect you from lightning. Myth busted. Rubber offers no safety net. Take cars for example, the metal roof and sides offer protection from lightning, not the tires, despite the popular belief.

Number 3 — You can track lightning’s distance by counting 1 second per mile after thunder. You actually have to go by the sound rule, counting between the flash and thunder. Five seconds accounts for one mile.

Number 2 — Do not touch a lightning victim who has been electrified. The unfounded belief is that you will therefore be electrocuted, but humans do not store electricity. That means touching and helping someone struck by lighting is certainly safe.

Number 1 – We’ve all heard it and come to believe it as true — lighting doesn’t strike the same place twice. The Empire State building serves as a counter example – on average, it gets struck 100 times over the course of one year.

3 Healthy Eating Habits We Can Learn From Asian Countries

Here are three eating habits from Asia that might be beneficial to adopt.

In Asian countries like Japan, less than 5 percent of adults are obese; yet in the U.S., a whopping third are obese. While many reasons may influence these statistics, here are three eating habits from across the globe that might be beneficial to adopt, according to Shape.com:

Number 3 — Japan gets big points for presentation. Nutritious and vibrantly coloured food such as fish and vegetables are arranged specifically to be visually stimulating to the appetite. The meal becomes elevated to a culinary experience. Since portions are on the smaller side, there’s no temptation to overeat.

Number 2 — China shows slow and steady wins the race. Using chopsticks slows down eating so that the body has a chance to recognize when it’s getting full and people generally eat much less. A recent study showed that people who gulped down their food quickly had much higher chances of being obese or having heart disease.

Number 1 — India’s stylish flavour profiles include lots of spice. A wide variety of herbs and spices are used to enhance the flavour and colour food as well as promote health. For example, turmeric and ginger can lower cholesterol while garlic and onion can lower heart disease.
