A zoo in China has denied suggestions some of its bears might be people in costumes after photos of the animals standing like humans circulated online.

Hangzhou Zoo said on social media that the sun bears from Malaysia are smaller than other bears and look different, but insisted they were the real thing.

“Some people think I stand like a person,” the post written from the bear’s point of view said. “It seems you don’t understand me very well.”

An employee who answered the phone at the zoo declined to talk about the bears but said visits were being arranged on Monday for reporters to see them.

Internet users questioned whether the zoo’s bears were genuine after photos circulated showing one standing upright on slender hind legs.

“Because of the way they stand, some people online question whether they are ‘humans in disguise,'” Chinese newspaper Hangzhou Daily said.

Ukrainian airline allows female cabin crew to wear trousers and trainers

A Ukrainian budget airline is allowing female cabin crew to swap their skirts and heels for comfy trouser suits and smart white trainers.

SkyUp, one of the country’s biggest low-cost airlines, announced that the new-look comfort option would be offered to female inflight staff from next month.

“Many of my colleagues are permanent clients of podiatrists; their toes and toe nails are constantly damaged by high heels,” SkyUp staff member Daria Solomennaya told the BBC.

“Twelve hours on your feet, flying from Kyiv to Zanzibar and back. If you wear high heels, you are hardly able to walk afterwards,” she added.

SkyUp is not the only airline to offer a more modern, comfy uniform for the female crew – in April 2020, Japan Airlines introduced a trousers option for women working onboard, as well as a range of footwear options including flat shoes.

If you’ve ever found your dog’s favorite toy nestled between pillows or under a pile of loose dirt in the backyard, then you’ve probably come to understand that dogs like to bury things. Like many of their behaviors, digging is an instinct. But where does that impulse come from?

Cesar’s Way explains that before dogs were domesticated and enjoyed bags of processed dog food set out in a bowl by their helpful human friends, they were responsible for feeding themselves. If they caught a meal, it was important to keep other dogs from running off with it. To help protect their food supply, it was necessary to bury it. Obscuring it under dirt helped keep other dogs off the scent.

This behavior persists even when a dog knows some kibble is on the menu. It may also manifest itself when a dog has more on its plate than it can enjoy at any one time. The ground is a good place to keep something for later.

But food isn’t the only reason a dog will start digging. If they’ve nabbed something of yours, like a television remote, they may be expressing a desire to play.

Some dog breeds are more prone to digging than others. Terriers, dachshunds, beagles, basset hounds, and miniature schnauzers go burrowing more often than others, though pretty much any dog will exhibit the behavior at times. A ‘rave’ organised by a 12-year-old boy in his school’s toilets lasted just 30 minutes before teachers shut it down – but his parents say he did nothing wrong.

Cael Bell advertised the underground event – held on December 11 – on Snapchat a week earlier, with all in attendance to the lunchtime gig offered a Cadbury Twirl and bottle of Lucozade.

The guest list included “all year 8 boys” at St Antony’s Catholic College in Urmston, in Trafford, Greater Manchester, and saw the aspiring DJ in charge of music after smuggling in his speakers and other kit.

Cael’s mum, hairdresser Louise Bell, of Flixton, received a phone call from her son’s school after the rave was busted and shut down.

The 41-year-old said: “I had to laugh. It has been a terrible year and I couldn’t be angry with my son for trying to spread some cheer.

“When I got the call, it made perfect sense. Cael had been up, dressed and ready to leave for school early that morning which was unheard of in our house.

“He had the biggest smile on his face so I knew he had something up his sleeve.

“I asked him what he was so happy about and he told me they were having a rave in school. I thought nothing of it, I didn’t think for one minute there was any truth to it.

“But when I heard what Cael had done, from advertising the rave on Snapchat to actually pulling it off and even providing refreshments, I couldn’t help but see the funny side.

“Cael’s dad thought it was hysterical, he said ‘go on son’. We did have a conversation about whether or not we should be angry but how could we be?

“In our eyes, he hadn’t done anything wrong. We would have been furious if the teachers had reprimanded him further, past confiscating his things.”

Mrs Bell said the school were impressed and told her they had confiscated the equipment because it “couldn’t facilitate such behaviour”.

“But I could tell that even they saw the funny side, too. It sounded like they were doing their best not to laugh on the phone,” she continued.

“When we asked him why he’d done it, he told us school was boring and that they had nothing to do at lunch time.

“Music is Cael’s motivation and we couldn’t be mad at him for expressing and sharing that passion. It was very inventive of him.”

After speaking to her son’s school, Mrs Bell took to social media to share her amusement with her friends.

“I’ve posted a few old videos of Cael DJing in his room for now to give you all an idea of what he gets up to.“

The viral post has now been viewed more than 400,000 times on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Viewers described Cael as a ‘legend’, with one fan commenting: “This kid doing more for the UK scene than most DJs and promoters.”

Another wrote: “Fair play, at least he ain’t sat there playing Fortnite. He will earn some good money when he’s older, hitting the clubs.”

Mrs Bell said: “I waited for Cael coming home from school to snap a picture of him because I knew he would have a face on like he was expecting a telling off. He was relieved when we saw the funny side but his face in the picture cracks me up.

“He loves music but is quite overwhelmed by his new-found fame. All his school friends are calling the house telling him he’s gone viral.

“We’re just proud that our son has brought a smile to so many people after such a difficult year. If you can’t laugh, then something’s not right.”
