A TAG QUESTIONS vagy QUESTION TAGS elnevezésű nyelvtani jelenég nem más, mint egy olyan rövid kérdés, amelyet egy kijelentő mondat (állítás vagy tagadás) végére teszünk, és ezzel visszakérdezünk a mondat tartalmára, ezzel megerősítést várva. Ez magyarul az UGYE kérdésnek felel meg.

Például: He can drive, can’t he?– Tud vezetni, ugye?

One effect of globalization is the increasing number of foreign companies and business partners in Hungary. Dealing with foreign tourists has been a daily task for hotel receptionist for decades but nowadays English skills are  a must at many company reception desks as well. As the receptionist is the first person a customer meets or hears on the phone, a good first impression is essential. A professional receptionist knows that their attitude and skills shape what customers think about the whole company. Therefore, it is worth investing time into improving one’s workplace English, which will result in more efficient communication and a better impression.

How to prepare for dealing with native and non-native English speakers in person and on the phone? Even if your general English conversation skills are not the best, as a receptionist you always need to communicate politely. For example, “Can I have your name, please?” sounds far better than “What’s your name?” in a professional environment. Make a list of polite expressions to learn.

Giving directions within the building and knowing the English equivalent of the departments and different positions in your company also saves you from the unpleasant task of clearing up misunderstandings later. If you are not sure, the best idea is to ask the relevant people about it.

If your company often has visitors from abroad it is handy to have free city plans and brochures from the tourist info. You can also make a good impression by having a couple of good restaurants to recommend. If you need to talk to a foreigner for a few minutes while they are waiting at the reception desk, have some standard questions ready: “How was your trip?” “How do you like the town/city?” “Have you been to Hungary before?”

Many people find it more difficult to understand foreigners over the phone. This is not surprising, so it is best to be prepared to ask for clarification and it is a good idea to find out in advance who to turn to if you realise the situation is beyond your English skills. Native speakers often use the Aviation Alphabet for spelling names, so have a print-out on your desk to avoid confusion.

A valóban rendkívül sokszínű palettán a Corvinus nyelvvizsga abban a szegmensben található, ahol a minőségi szolgáltatás, a szakmai színvonal, a kiváló vizsgakörülmények és a vizsgázók érdekei állnak a középpontban. Mennyiben és hogyan kötődik a vizsga magához a Corvinus Egyetemhez?

Nyelvvizsgaközpontunk a Corvinus Egyetem szervezeti egysége, de ezen túlmenően maga a vizsga nem kötődik az egyetemhez azon túl, hogy „a név kötelez”, vagyis – ahogy már korábban is említettem – számunkra a minőség elsődleges fontosságú. Államilag elismert, akkreditált nyelvvizsgaközpont vagyunk,  2000 májusa óta foglalkozunk szaknyelvi vizsgáztatással, 2014 óta pedig általános nyelvi vizsgákat is kínálunk. Bárki jöhet hozzánk vizsgázni, akár Budapesten, akár országszerte vizsgahelyszíneinken. Annak ellenére, hogy mi nem hirdetjük magunkat „nemzetközi vizsgaként” – ami valójában egy nem létező fogalom, csupán marketingfogás – a mi vizsgánk is elfogadható külföldön, hiszen a bizonyítványban több nyelven is szerepel a vizsga európai szintbesorolása.

Hogyan lehet a nyelvtudást mérni? Mennyire lehet ez objektív, és mennyiben múlik az esetleges tényezőkön?

A nyelvtudás sajnos nem olyan dolog, aminek minden kétséget kizáróan, „milliméterre pontosan” meg lehet mérni a hosszát, szélességét, netán a mélységét, de a vizsgáztatók megfelelő és folyamatos szakmai képzésével remekül lehet közelíteni az egységes és objektív mérés és értékelés felé. Az esetleges tényezők inkább a vizsgázók oldaláról bukkannak fel időnként, amikor pl. valaki idegességében leblokkol egy szóbeli vizsgán. Ilyenkor mindent megteszünk, hogy mentsük a helyzetet, akkor is, ha ez pár perc kitérőt jelent a vizsga menetében, és az esetek többségében utána sikerül is kihoznunk a vizsgázóból a legjobbat. Minket tényleg az érdekel, hogy ki mit tud, ráadásul semmilyen szempontból nem vagyunk abban érdekeltek, hogy bárkinek ismételnie kelljen a vizsgáját.

Mennyire és miért lehet érdekes munka vizsgáztatni?

Az igazi tanáregyéniségek kifejezetten szeretnek szóbeliztetni, mert ez egyfajta ünnep, ahol a diák több éves erőfeszítése eredményeképpen megszerzett nyelvtudásáról szerezhet bizonyságot (illetve bizonyítványt) a mi segítségünkkel. Ezért is nem páros vizsga a szóbeli nálunk, vagyis a vizsgázó nem egy másik diákkal beszélget, aki izgalmában hadar, vagy motyog, esetleg messze a szint alatt van, vagy annyira jól tud, hogy éppen ezzel bizonytalanítja el a másik vizsgázót. A Corvinus Nyelvvizsgaközpontban a vizsgázó profi vizsgáztatókkal beszélget, akik amellett, hogy megteremtik a beszélgetés oldott hangulatát, mindent megtesznek azért is, hogy szükség esetén kihúzzák a diákból azt a tudást, ami az adott szinten szükséges  a sikeres vizsgához. Ez így nekünk értelemszerűen több munkát és több költséget jelent, de ismét csak arra tudok emlékeztetni, amit már korábban is mondtam, hogy egyetemi intézményként mi nem profitorientált központ vagyunk, nálunk a vizsgázó érdeke az első.

Milyen hibákat szoktak elkövetni a vizsgázók a felkészülés és a vizsgázás során? Hogyan lehet ezeket kiküszöbölni?

A felkészülési részére mi kevéssé látunk rá a folyamatnak, csak következtetni tudunk az ott esetleg elkövetett hibákra a vizsgán tapasztaltak alapján. Írásbeli vizsga esetén nagyon fontos az idő megfelelő beosztása annak ellenére, hogy mi kifejezetten bőséges időkereteket adunk a feladatok teljesítésére, azért, hogy pl. egy lassabban olvasó diák (én is ilyen voltam) se legyen időzavarban, vagy legyen idő átnézni a kész munkát. Fontos a vizsgán a hagyományos papírszótár viszonylag gyors kezelése, amitől a mai diákok igencsak el vannak szokva, lévén, hogy lassan már online zajlik az egész életünk. A szótár sokat segíthet a vizsgán, de hatékony használatát gyakorolni célszerű a felkészülés során. Mind a levélírás, mind pedig a szóbeli során nagyon fontos, hogy ne akarjunk olyan nyelvi szerkezeteket használni, amit bizonytalanul tudunk. A szóbelin különösen fontos tudatosítani azt, hogy ez nyelvvizsga, nem pedig eskü alatti tanúvallomás. Senki ne essen abba a csapdába, hogy feltétlenül igazat akar mondani, ha ehhez olyan szavak kellenek, amit nem ismer. Ha például a kedvenc ételéről kérdezik a vizsgázót, ami történetesen szalontüdő zsemlegombóccal, akkor célszerű helyette olyan fogást említeni, ami bár valójában távolról sem kedvenc, de jól lehet róla beszélni. Garantáltan senki nem fog utánajárni, hogy tényleg úgy van-e.

Mi az, amit a tanárok jól csinálnak a nyelvtanítás, a vizsgára felkészítés során és miben változtathatnának a módszereiken?

A mi általános nyelvvizsgánk szerencsére (és szándékosan) olyan, ami nem igényel speciális felkészítési technikákat, és mivel szinte minden tanár készít fel diákokat érettségire, így a mi vizsgánkra is hatékonyan tudnak összpontosítani. A tanár igazi felelőssége ott van, hogy mikor nyilvánítja vizsgára érettnek a diákja nyelvtudását. Ismerek több olyan kollégát is, akinek a diákjai rendre remekül teljesítenek, mert csak akkor jönnek vizsgázni, amikor biztosan veszik az akadályokat, de sajnos találkozunk néha olyan vizsgázóval is, akit idejekorán küldött vizsgázni tanára, és ezzel feleslegesen okozott kudarcélményt a diákjának.

Miben különböznek a szaknyelvi vizsgák az általános vizsgáktól? Mekkora hangsúlyt kapnak a szaknyelvi és szakmai ismeretek?

Gazdasági és nemzetközi kapcsolatok szaknyelvi vizsgáink elsősorban a szaknyelvi, szaklexikai tartalomban különböznek az általános vizsgánktól, mivel itt szakmai szövegek és témakörök állnak a központban. Bár némi szakmai jártasságra értelemszerűen szükség van a vizsgán, különben nehéz lenne pl. Magyarország EU tagságának gazdasági előnyeiről beszélgetni, de azért ez hangsúlyozottan nem szakmai vizsga, hanem továbbra is „csak” nyelvvizsga, tehát tételes szakmai tudást nem kérünk számon.

Milyen terveik vannak a továbbiakra nézve? 

Hatalmas a verseny a vizsgaközpontok között az összességében egyre csökkenő számú vizsgázókért. Ebben a küzdelemben mi továbbra is hitelességgel, vizsgázóközpontúsággal és kiváló színvonalú szolgáltatásokkal szeretnénk egyre több vizsgázót magunkhoz vonzani, valamint tervezünk új vizsgahelyeket és további felkészítő anyagokat is a már meglévőek mellé. Alapvetően azonban folytatjuk azt, amit eddig is tettünk a vizsgázók és nyelvtudásuk terén: „szolgálunk és mérünk” : )

Dog lovers can rejoice, America’s first dog cafe is opening its doors in L.A on April 7th. The Dog Cafe, the first of its kind in the United States, will bring together coffee drinkers and rescue dogs.

Located in the south Silver Lake neighbourhood of Rampart Village, The Dog Cafe provides a space for visitors to intermingle with rescue dogs from local shelters who are available for adoption.

The Dog Cafe’s mission is to revolutionize dog adoption by reinventing the way people connect with rescues who need homes. The Dog Cafe offers a comfortable and fun space for humans and dogs to meet and spend time with each other, away from the environment of overcrowded shelters, which can provoke fear and aggression in perfectly adoptable pups. In addition to helping worthy pups find homes, The Dog Cafe also offers the opportunity for people unable to have pets of their own to spend quality time with furry friends (and vice versa) without the commitment of adoption.

Founder Sarah Wolfgang said: “After I moved to Korea from the United States as a child, I started frequenting the dog cafes there. As a dog lover, it was amazing to have the opportunity to go see and spend time with pups any time. oven temperature: 180ºC–       50g cold butter

–       410g self-raising flour

–       250ml grated mature Cheddar cheese

–       25ml sugar

–       100ml ground biltong

–       550ml beer

–       60ml melted butter

1. Rub the cold butter into the flour. Reserve 50ml cheese then add the remaining cheese, the sugar and the biltong to the flour mixture. Stir in the beer until just mixed.
2. Line cupcake or muffin trays with lining papers and grease them. Spoon muffin mixture into each one. Spoon melted butter on top of each one and top with the reserved cheese. Bake in a preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden and well risen.
3. Enjoy while still warm, spread with butter or on their own.

–         220g can apricot halves in fruit juice

–         195g can mandarin oranges in fruit juice

–         3 teaspoons runny honey

–         1 tablespoon thickening granules

–         60g ratafia biscuits

–         4 tablespoons sweet sherry

–         500g tub fresh custard

–         170g 0% fat Greek yogurt

–         4 sundae glasses

Drain the juice from the cans of fruit into a jug and add 1 tsp of the honey. Microwave on High for 1 minute, add the thickening granules and microwave on High for another minute. Stir until thickened and smooth. Cool for a few minutes.

Reserve one ratafia biscuit and arrange the rest in the glasses. Sprinkle with the sherry. Arrange the fruit on top and then spoon in the thickened juice. Cool for 10 minutes.

Pour custard over. Spoon on a large dollop of Greek yogurt and sprinkle with the last ratafia biscuit, crumbled between your fingers. Drizzle with the rest of the honey, just before serving.

Tip from our kitchen:You can make your own custard, using 600ml custard made following the instructions on the tin. Chill for at least 30 minutes before topping with the yogurt.
