According to reports, an 85-year-old Austrian woman left $1.1 million in euros and savings records shredded on her bed in a retirement home; the action is believed to have been done to “spite her heirs.”

When people don’t want to leave money to their relatives, it is usually specified in a will, but one senior in Austria decided to take a more unusual approach. According to the Telegraph, an 85-year-old woman who recently died in a retirement home left around $1.1 million in euros and savings records cut up on her bed. It is believed that this action was motivated by a possible intention to “spite her heirs.” Based on the preliminary findings, a state prosecutor told the AFP, “The damage of the money in the woman's property is not a criminal matter, so we have not begun any investigation.” However, according to The Local, the scorned beneficiaries may be able to cash in after all. An official with the country's central bank told the local newspaper, Kurier, that the money can be replaced “if the origin of the money is assured.” In another unusual case that was reported earlier this year, a 60-year-old New Yorker decided to change her will to leave about $1.5 million to her beloved Maltese terrier in order to guarantee the dog's luxurious lifestyle. The woman’s two sons were reportedly understanding.
