Steve Strong, Anna Sweet, Steve Furious … who are they?
Erős Pista, aka Steve Strong is a very popular chili sauce in Hungary, produced by Univer. Erős Pista is made from coarsely minced hot paprika and salt, containing nothing more perishable, it can be stored for a year in a refrigerator.
There are two other versions of the sauce: Édes Anna, aka Sweet Anna, is less spicy, while Hargos Pista is even stronger than Erős Pista.
Hungarians use Erős Pista in, for example, lecsó (vegetable stew, similar to ratatouille), csirkepaprikás (chicken paprikash) and soups like halászlé (fisherman’s soup) and gulyás (goulash).
The most popular condiment in Hungary is, the so called, Red Gold (Piros Arany), which is a condiment made from excellent quality paprika, providing the flavour and colour of fresh peppers to consumers throughout the year. It is a unique product on the Hungarian market whose popularity has been undiminished since 1968. Its name has practically become a regular noun known by most Hungarians for tradition, quality and uniqueness.
