Fears for future of Buckingham Palace as William and Kate to make Forest Lodge their ‘forever home’
Prince William and Kate Middleton are to move into a new home in Windsor. William and Kate, both 43, will be leaving their current residence, Adelaide Cottage, to move to the eight-bedroom Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park, with their children George, Charlotte and Louis. The upcoming move has left many to wonder about the long-term fate of Buckingham Palace.
Sources suggest the Waleses will personally fund the extensive refurbishments needed for the magnificent eight-bedroom Windsor property, with plans to move in before year’s end.
Royal insiders describe Forest Lodge as the family’s “forever home”, raising questions about Buckingham Palace’s future, as the iconic building could face an unprecedented future without a reigning monarch in residence.
The Waleses’ are reportedly eager to depart Adelaide Cottage, their home of three years, for a new beginning after navigating the difficulties of Kate’s cancer battle and the passing of Queen Elizabeth, reports the Mirror.
Buckingham Palace, the monarch’s official London residence, is currently undergoing a huge refurbishment from top to bottom, including a complete redecoration of the late Queen’s suite of rooms, costing a staggering £369 million of public funds.
Because of the extensive renovation works, no members of the Royal family are currently living in the Palace, as the overdue and desperately-needed improvements are addressing long-standing problems that stretch back to before the Second World War.
