A 13-year-old Australian boy, Austin Applebee, has been called a hero after saving his mother, brother, and sister from a dangerous situation at sea. The family was enjoying a day on the water near Dunsborough when strong currents suddenly pulled them away from the shore. Their kayak filled with water, they lost their paddles, and soon they were drifting further and further out to sea.

As the waves grew stronger, the situation became extremely serious. Austin’s mother realised that they needed help quickly, so she asked her son to try to swim back to the beach and call for rescue. Although he was scared, Austin understood that he was their only hope. He first tried to paddle, but the kayak sank, so he started swimming on his own.

Austin swam about four kilometres through rough water. The journey took several hours, and at one point he even had to remove his life jacket because it slowed him down. When he finally reached the shore, he immediately alerted people nearby, who contacted emergency services.

Rescue teams, including a helicopter, searched the area and eventually found Austin’s mother and siblings. They had been holding onto their paddle boards for more than eight hours while waiting for help. Thanks to Austin’s bravery and determination, all three were safely brought back to land.

The story has inspired many people across Australia. Austin’s actions show how courage, quick thinking, and perseverance can make a huge difference in an emergency.
