Home-made custard and plums
Easy Sunday treat for kids and unexpected guests. It makes 6 portions.
- 600ml milk
- 10ml vanilla essence 8 egg yolks
- 45ml cake flour
- 160g sugar
- 400g sugar
- 750ml water
- 8 plums
Bring milk and vanilla essence to the boil. Whisk egg yolks, flour and 160g sugar together till light and creamy. Add warm water while whisking. Pour back into a clean saucepan and place over low heat. Whisk slowly for about 5-8 minutes until the mixture is thick and smooth. Don’t let the mixture boil, because then it will separate. Remove from heat and place in a clean dish. Bring the remainder of the sugar and water to the boil in a medium-sized pot. Add plums and poach slowly for about 10-15 minutes or until the plums are soft and the skin starts to burst open. Remove with a spatula from the syrup. Serve soft plums with warm custard.
- Hint: You can also serve it with roast almonds or any other nuts.
