’ISSUE’ – Is it an issue for you or can you use it properly?
The word ’Issue’ has quite a lot of meanings and it is used more and more frequently in everyday language.
Meanings:
1. a subject or problem that people are thinking and talking about – egy dolog vagy probléma, amiről az emberek gondolkoznak vagy beszélnek
például: environmental/ethical/personal issues – környezeti, etikai, személyes jellegű problémák
Synonyms: matter, matter in question, affair, business, subject, topic, question, point, item, thing, case, concern, theme
As employers we need to address (= deal with) these issues sympathetically. – Nekünk, mint munkaadóknak, együttérzően kell kezelnünk ezeket a problémákat.
Don’t worry about who will do it – that’s just a side issue (= not the main problem). – Ne törődj azzal, hogy ki fogja ezt megcsinálni. Ez csak egy mellékes probléma.
The party is divided over the issue of capital punishment. – A pártot megosztja a halálbüntetés ügye.
Animal experimentation is a highly emotive issue. – Az állatokon való kísérletezés erős érzelmeket és indulatokat kavaró ügy.
We met on several occasions to discuss the issue. – Sokszor találkoztunk, hogy megbeszéljük az ügyet/problémát.
The computers are being unusual today. We’ve had some issues with printing and saving. – Valami baj van ma a számítógépekkel. Problémás a nyomtatás és a mentés.
2. a set of newspapers or magazines published at the same time or a single copy of a newspaper or magazine – a.)egy újság vagy magazin egyszerre/ egy időben megjelenő számai
Synonyms: issuing, publication, publishing
There’s an article on motorbikes in the latest issue. – Van egy cikk a motorokról a legutóbbi számban.

An old issue of ’5 Perc Angol’ lay on the table. – Az 5 Perc Angol egy régebbi száma hevert az asztalon.
3. to issue something – used as a verb – to produce or provide something official – hivatalosan kiadni, kibocsátani valamit (pl. szabályt, rendeletet,, engedélyt)
Synonyms: to supply, to provide, to furnish, to equip
The office will be issuing permits on Monday and Wednesday mornings. – A hivatal hétfő és szerda reggelenként fog engedélyeket kiadni.
The school issued a statement about its plans to the press. – Az iskola kiadott egy tájékoztatót a terveiről a sajtónak.
Idioms and expressions with ’issue’:
– back issue – a newspaper or magazine of an earlier date than the one now on sale – magazin vagy újság régebbi száma
– without issue – If someone dies without issue, they have no children – leszármazott nélkül
– make an issue of something – to make something seem more important than it should be, or to argue about it – szükségtelenül nagy ügyet csinálni valamiből
– have issues with – to have difficulty or disagreement with someone or something – problémája van valamivel/valakivel
– at issue – most important in what is being discussed – a fő kérdés
– burning issue/question – a subject or question that must be dealt with or answered quickly – égető/sürgető probléma/ kérdés
– evade the issue, question – to intentionally not talk about something or not answer something – szándékosan nem beszélni a problémáról, kikerülni a problémát
