Hello and welcome everyone, to the smallest country in the world. Benvenuto Vaticano.
Established in 1929, the Vatican is the spiritual and administrative center of the Roman Catholic Church. Right now, I am inside St. Peter’s Basilica. And it is just insane, so beautiful. The dome is so freaking big.
It’s the world’s smallest sovereign state by both size and population. Just 1/8th as big as Central Park and home to just 900 citizens. These are the enclosed walls to the country. The Vatican is known for having some of the world’s most famous churches. Painting and sculptures, such as in St. Peter’s Basilica and Michelangelo’s work in the Sistine Chapel.
It’s also where the Pope himself lives and gives speeches often to the public. So it appears as if the Pope is gonna give a speech soon from his balcony right there. The Vatican really does function as an independent country.

They issue their own Euro coin, their own passports, license plates, and they even have their own post office, flag, telephone system, and radio station. The museums of the Vatican receive over 6 million tourists a year. There’s like 50 tours at once.
It’s been a fun day here in the Vatican, definitely worth spending an afternoon or a half day. Just warning, the lines get really long and it’s really claustrophobic in those museums, so Amanda and I kind of went fast.
I also have an allergy attack happening right now, and the best part actually of this whole day has been sitting here in the main square. Just people watching and looking at these stunning buildings. So all in all, the Vatican’s a great place, very cool to visit, add it to your list, and I will see you later from Rome.
