“The Last House” is a new science-fiction thriller from Netflix. The film came out in August 2026, and it quickly became very popular. It reached number one on Netflix’s Top 10 list in its first weeks.
The story follows the Delgado family: father Jason, mother Riley, and their two children. One day, something strange happens. All the doors and windows of their house become sealed. They cannot leave. Soon, they discover that their neighbors have the same problem. Outside, it rains without stopping, and strange, dark shapes move through the rain. Nobody knows what these shapes are or why the families are trapped.
As days pass, the family’s food and water start to run out. They must work together to survive. The film shows how fear and danger can either break a family apart or bring them closer together. The director, Louis Leterrier, wanted to explore what “home” and “safety” really mean when they suddenly disappear.
The movie stars Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, two well-known actors. Critics have mixed opinions about the film. Some say the actors are excellent, but the story feels repetitive and doesn’t build enough tension.
Even so, many viewers enjoyed the suspense and the emotional story about family and survival. If you like mystery and a bit of horror, “The Last House” might be worth watching.
A strange advertising stunt
Before the film’s release, Netflix created an unusual advertisement. The company built a small house on top of a real billboard on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, 30 feet above the street. Then they put a real actor, Nathan Shoop, inside it. For three days, he “lived” in the little house, in view of everyone driving by. He could not speak to people directly, so he wrote messages on a whiteboard for cars and pedestrians below.
The stunt quickly went viral on social media. Many people found it funny and creative, since it matched the film’s story about a family trapped in their home. However, some journalists joked that the advertisement was more interesting than the movie itself, and a few critics said Netflix was trying too hard to create buzz for a film with mixed reviews.
Even with the mixed reactions, many viewers enjoyed the suspense and the emotional story about family and survival.
